Dear Family and Friends,
For those of you who’ve supported Ice911 Research for a long time (some of you from the very beginning!) we give you our sincere thanks, and to say that truly, without you, we couldn’t have gotten to the point where we’ve been referred to as the farthest ahead Arctic restoration effort in the world.
Our team has been growing and changing lately to do an even better job of building and proving out the technology to restore Arctic ice reflectivity, including adding some wonderful technical expertise to our team and building more local and international collaborations to help get our work done at the scale needed.
When Ice911 Research was founded in 2008, it was already clear that the effects of climate change weren’t just going to impact people far away in some future time - and that it would pose a threat to future generations in their lifetimes, including my own then-young children.
Fast forward to today and, after years of extensive testing, refining, and testing again, we have the most-promising material choice, the team, and the experience needed to significantly reduce the impacts of climate change and make a difference before it’s too late.
To become even better positioned to do our impactful work, we’ve changed our name. We’d like to assure you that what hasn’t changed is our determination to slow climate devastation in time to make a difference.
Ice911 Research started in the United States and is a name that’s served us well over the years, conveying urgent work on ice. But it’s now time for a change for two important reasons:
1) As our work has grown internationally, we’ve found that 911 doesn’t indicate an emergency in many regions of the world.
2) In the U.S., Ice has now often come to mean something other than a frozen form of water.
After thoughtful internal conversations, in-depth research, and discussions with many of our long-time supporters, we’re thrilled to announce we’re now Arctic Ice Project! You’ll start to see the rebranding of our organization, including our website and social media profiles.
This new name brings us into alignment with our organization’s mission and philosophy.
It’s part of our strategy to emphasize our commitment to restoring the Earth’s natural heat shield. Arctic Ice Project will enable us to expand upon our technical work, accomplish global growth objectives, and develop new partners and major donor relationships.
We hope you like the new name and the update we’ve given our beloved pixelated polar bear logo (originally created by our Principal Engineer, Alex Sholtz). Since ice is our continuing focus, we’re keeping an icy theme in our name and logo.
We’ll continue our ongoing efforts to expeditiously make a difference in the climate, giving the world’s nations the desperately needed time to complete the transition to sustainable energy and fuels.
With our thanks and best regards,
Leslie
